The ‘Twelve 12s’ series is back with our 31st installment this time bringing the first of 2 special mixes courtesy of South London’s finest – Jimmy Plates!
Jimmy Plates is a producer, DJ, record connoisseur and all round music specialist. Seriously, very few people know and understand music better than this man. When he’s not producing for the likes of Mystro, Endevers etc., you can catch him rocking with Southern Hospitality at Players Ball Central every month and this week as special guest at the madness that is Hip Hop Karaoke for all you hip-hop fiends! Therefore, we’re delighted that he’s laced us with not one, but TWO more ‘Twelve 12s’ mixes to add to the series, the first of which we’re presenting right here. As you may have already clocked this is the first of two all KRS-One everything editions and this one focuses on his releases with BDP and others throughout the 80s (…we got the 90s next week for y’all!) and hence is twelve records of absolutely definitive, classic and just hard to the core Bronx hip-hop (including a couple of extra gems with Just-Ice and the Stop The Violence Movement). As ever, we could go on about how many of these records changed the face of hip-hop, still sound incredible today etc. but instead the best way to understand is just jam the awesome mix that Jimmy Plates has put together. Still “fresh for 2012…you suckaaaas!!!”
So there you have it, and in case you missed the first twenty nine instalments from Rob, Superix, James Lebens, DJ Ayres, DJ Dub, DJ Hudson, Matt Evans, Spin Doctor, Matthew Africa, Cosmo Baker, DJ Eleven, Big Jacks, Drew Huge, Donsta.
