Visitors to Southern Hospitality will know how much we love us some good old Rap & Bullshit. Sometimes nothing else will do, and by sometimes we mean most of the damn time. However, especially when we’re partying with our longtime homie J.Bo who we’ve collaborated with on this mix. In fact, such an authority on Rap & B. we’re gonna let the man explain himself:
“The long overdue collaboration between J.Bo and Southern Hospitality has been a true labour of love, just over a year in the making… and even now, the only way to agree to a final tracklisting was to start planning volume 2 (and 3!) immediately. A representation of one of our favourite sub-genres of all, these are the jiggy jams that brought fun and females back to the clubs. Featuring such luminaries of the genre as Fabo, Jigga, Kells, Luda and Diddy in a musical celebration of all that is trite and trivial, frivolous and flagrant. If the Fresh Prince is still looking for “a groove that soothes and moves romance” this ‘Summertime’ then here are 22 of em. Long live “Rap & Bullshit”.”
-J-Bo
So there you have it, couldn’t have put it better myself.
Enjoy!

While it may not seem like much to disciples of the Based God, the most painstakingly loyal of which will have over 1,500 Lil B tracks on their hard drives, Wiley’s release of 11 zip folders containing 202 finished songs (many of which are sure-fire hits), freestyles, demos and instrumentals, is one of the most significant events in Grime in years.
It’s also one of the most cathartic. After years of label frustration, the incontestable Godfather of Grime has now both drawn a line in the sand and created a serious buzz around his next moves, like him now reportedly making a track every day for the next two weeks and then releasing a new album.
So while we sit back and genuinely enjoy the Wiley Show as it unfolds, with a collective lust that the originator of a music scene will finally get the success he deserves, here’s our best of the #WileyZipFiles:
01. Elusive Intro
02. Playground Freestyle
03. Flipping From The Gut
04. Do My Dance
05. Bun A Likkle Weed ft. Trigga
06. Hello People ft. Kano & Chipmunk
07. What They Want
08. Don’t Hide Away ft. Rinse, Ice Kid & Mike Skinner
09. Runway ft. J2K, Mz Bratt & Brazen
10. 8BNC
11. Club World
12. Grime Daley ft. Wrigley
13. Art Of Grime ft. Breeze
14. Neva Neva ft. Wrigley
15. Still Gonna Miss
16. Money Or More Money ft. Brazen
17. Let’s Jus Say ft. Breeze, Brazen, Flowdan & Scratchy
18. Us Against The World
19. 25 Freestyle

Behind every real man…
…are thousands of incredible female vocal tracks. These are just some of them. As part three of the ‘Real Man Music’ series, it was time to share some of my personal female favourites. Mixed/compiled live as usual, this is still some quiet storm, emotional business from well known artists like Aretha, Kate Bush, Nina Simone etc. and perhaps lesser knowns like Karen Pree and Jaibi making it 70+ minutes of midtempo, slow and (hella) slow jams that define the music I listen to on the regular.
Kick back to this one and I hope you enjoy the music as much as me.
Real Man Music 3 – Behind Every Real Man
- Love, Need And Want You – Patti Labelle
- Tryin To Get To You – Valerie Carter
- This Time Last Summer – Nancy Wilson
- Sparkle – Aretha Frankin
- Let’s Wait A While – Janet Jackson
- No One In This World – Anita Baker
- I Can’t Love Anymore – Teena Marie
- Hatful Of Stars – Cyndi Lauper
- You’ve Gotten To Me – Karen Pree
- Hey That’s No Way to Say Goodbye – Roberta Flack
- So Far Away – Carole King
- You Got Me – Jaibi
- He’s A Runner – Cass Elliot
- The Wind – Laura Nyro
- This Woman’s Work – Kate Bush
- My Father – Nina Simone
- Smokin Room – Chaka Khan
- How Many Days – Syreeta
- This Girl’s In With Love You – Dionne Warwick

p.s. Once again I got to say a huge thank you to the homie Davey Boy Smith for hooking me up a dope cover once again, track-marking the mix and generally making sure things are right…before I’d barely had chance to even ask him. Too damn good.

Droop-E is the Boy/Bay Genius no doubt. I guess being the son of E-40, he had little choice but to be an uncompromising, creative, forward thinking original. But seriously, who else has produced so many trunk-rattling, dreadlock shaking, stupid doo-doo-dumb records as Earl Stevens Jnr. whilst still in their teens? Who else could flip a Bjork sample (cleared by her goddamn self no less) in such an insane manner, and still keep that Bay Area slap? Droop-E has already etched himself indelibly into Bay Area and hip-hop music’s history, yet he still remains defiantly the future.
So, much like my Rick Rock, Mr. Lee mix and others, this is my dedication to one of the most exhilarating, avant-garde and hardcore producers out there…as always mixed all the way live from SM5. Now a man, Droop-E is seemingly, and quite incredibly only hitting his stride, if his mind-blowing work on his dad’s recent ‘Revenue Retrievin’ albums are anything to go by. As I always say I coulda EASILY done more than one volume of this mix (hence the Vol.1), but with this I’ve just tried to include a range of his tracks, both in tempo (I coulda just done a 100-110bpm mix without even thinking and it woulda been ill) and age, to provide a snapshot of someone who has constantly reminded me over the last 6 or 7 years, why I love this damn music! As expected then, you have Earl Snr. in his guiding cameo role featured heavily throughout the mix along with the awesome Sick-Wid-It new-wave like Turf Talk, Cousin Fik, The Mossie, his sparring partner B-Slimm etc. as well as Bay legends like B-Legit, Too Short, San Quinn and Mike Marshall, to name just a few. Taken from a mixture of classic West Coast albums like ‘West Coast Vaccine’, ‘Disobayish’, ‘Da Bidness’ etc., some random joints by perhaps lesser known artists, and of course the definitive Sick-Wid-It compilations, I hope you get more than a taste of Droop-E’s magic, whether he’s producing high-octane Hyphy jams like ‘Go Ignant’, or musical, reflective odes to the trials of life like ‘Gotta Get Betta’. I even squeezed in one of his tracks that samples Sade, a true favourite of both mine and the man himself.
Basically he can do it all. So hit download and enjoy more than a little sample from one of the most exciting producers in the game. Like I already said, he’s just getting started…

The ‘Twelve 12s’ series is back again for the twenty first installment. The Boy Evans is back with another incredible Drum & Bass mix! We had such good feedback from many of you for his last mix that we are dropping another for your good ears!
Here’s a bit more about the man himself;
Matt Evans has long been down with the Southern Hospitality crew. Plus, he was there when these records came out and knows them inside out, so there’s no greater authority on the beginnings on jungle/drum and bass than his good self! When not in his home studio disecting the latest killer house cut, Matt can be found playing his latest productions to unsupecting audiences across the UK and Europe. Not content with his own productions gracing the in-trays of top-notch labels like UrbanTorque, Freerange, Lost My Dog and 2020 Vision, he’s recently signed a track to Kolour Recordings USA (Detroit) home of Vernon & Decosta, Giom and Miles Maeda. He’s also been fortunate to release material under the highly respected Heartbeat Revolutions label – home of Julian Sanza (Silver City) and Timmy Stewart (Jet Project) Currently, he’s working on music projects with artists including Astral T (Hudd Traxx), Katie Leone, Lifford (Artful Dodger) Julian Sanza (Silver City) and Pete Da Feet (Lost My Dog). So, you’ve heard about the man – now check out his mix!
In case you missed the first twenty instalments from Rob, Superix, James Lebens, DJ Ayres, DJ Dub, DJ Hudson, Matt Evans, Spin Doctor, Matthew Africa, Cosmo Baker, DJ Eleven, Big Jacks, Drew Huge, Donsta. J-Squared, Superix, 7L, Rookie, DJ Co-Op & Superix – you can still catch them here and watch out for another ‘Twelve 12s coming very soon…

The ‘Twelve 12s’ series is back again for the twentieth installment. Its been a real sad week for hip hop all over the globe with the passing of one of our favourite artists of all time, Guru from Gangstarr. This week our very own Superix goes in again with this real nice tribute mix.
Superix:
“There’s not much we can say that hasnt already been said on blogs all over the world, but Guru & Gangstarr for us were always up there with the greatest rap groups ever alongside; Public Enemy, De La Soul, Run DMC, Outkast, A Tribe Called Quest etc. Evidence of this is myself, Rob & most of the DJ’s, collectors and fans we know, all have so many Gangstarr records in their collections, they were just so damn prolific, dropping classic after classic must-have wax with amazing cover art and some of the best B-sides in hip hop history. So in order to do our special Twelve 12′s tribute mix it’s been really tricky to refine it to just 12, so many hits, so much good music, its almost impossible. I could have easily gone to 25+ records, but i’ve managed to get 12 of my personal favourites on this mix and also picked records that show Guru & Gangstarr’s versatility as artists throughout their careers.”
R.I.P. Guru. Thank you for all the incredible music you gave us.
