When ATL-born, NY-living tattoo, visual and recording artist Corey Davis told me he wanted to shoot a music video while he was over here putting his permanent mark on the ink fiends of London, I knew his people back home needed to really hear, see and feel the grime that runs through the veins of this city. When I discovered he was commissioned by the Dame Dash-founded Creative Control agency to do it, I knew the artist had to be doing the grimiest kind of grime out there. And thanks to the efforts of JP and Hyperfrank, who have been championing one particular Lewisham grime MC like no other for the past few months, Kozzie was the obvious choice for the only grime video shot by an American for a global audience since Dizzee’s Stand Up Tall and UGK collab Where’s The Gs from back in 2004 and 2007.
Filmed across the city, from Lewisham to Waterloo and Millenium Bridge, Kozzie and fellow Blueborough representer Merky ACE gave Corey a genuine sample of the raw, epic vibes we’re so accustomed to on these shores, to take back home. ‘Back Again’ is produced by Lewi White and featured on the Ministry Of Sound’s Adventures In Dubstep CD. Kozzie’s DJ Spooky-produced Destruction is also available on iTunes.
