‘Twelve 12′s’ Live Vinyl Only Mix Series:
01: Southern Hospitality’s Rob Breezy

1212s_01

This is the start of something.

As you can see, this is the first instalment in a brand new series of mixes that Southern Hospitality will be presenting to you. The premise is very simple:

1. You take exactly twelve 12″ records.

2. You mix ‘em live (no edits) from vinyl and press record.

3. You take a photo of the covers in the order in which they were mixed, just like in the cover above and our design maestro Superix makes it look just perfect.

4. You share it with the world.

As you can see from the first edition mixed by my damn self, I took a very random approach to things and just pulled out 12 old hip-hop records that I simply like…no particular rhyme or reason. However, for future editions, the mixes may be themed or not even hip-hop at all – disco, soul, pop, RnB or whatever. We already have other great DJs lining up their mixes and who knows what they will bring. But for now, enjoy the first in the series of ‘Twelve 12″s’

    5 songs i wish existed on 12″ :

    Slick Rick – Bond

Ice T – High Rollers (technically this does exist on 12″ but only as a crap remix and with no instrumental)

Ice Cube – Steady Mobbin’ (another one which technically does exist on 12″ but only as an awful clean version where Cube delivers the lyrics as if he’s reciting a supermarket receipt and, again, no instrumental)

    UGK – Wood Wheel

    E-40 & B. Legit – Sideways

    ^

I gotta agree with all of those. In fact you’ve just named a few of my favourite all time joints! I have the same frustration with ‘High Rollers’ – that shit should have just been Album vers./Instrumental

Hello hello, Hudson here – I’m liking the mix concept. I wouldn’t mind having a go at doing one at some point. Is there any chance of getting in on this?

  4. Rob Pursey says:

What up Hudson – yeah man get involved! Look forward to it

basically i wrote a big rant, but my connection died, so here is the summarised version:

    - about how im using my gf’s collection(mine in oz) so my mix will be backback rap, uk hiphop and ninjatune stuff. saying that as robs dope selection has got me shook and i can’t pull from the crates.

    - i was also moaning about not missing lugging 100+ records to gigs, dusty fingers, buying doubles and general maintenance of owning a crapload of records.

    - have i become old and jaded?

    - do scratch records count as a 12″???

    ha

  6. Rob Pursey says:

Ha ha – all good CWD – random is the new order.

Look forward to it – the mixes are coming in thick and fast!

  7. Drew Huge says:

I don’t have decks, I can’t mix, but you know I’ve got the records, so I’ll definitely get involved. Loving the first two mixes.
