Does anybody love ‘Sex And Violence’ (the album I mean) as much as me? I remember people being a little lukewarm around the time of it’s release, and also not a lot of people buying it, but me and my main hip-hop connect, Metzy used to play that damn thing to death! So many dope joints on that album – ‘Build and Destroy’, ‘Like A Throttle’, ‘We In There’ and of course ‘Ruff Ruff’ where Freddie Foxxx hurt, punished, stomped, crushed and maimed emcees for what seemed like about ten minutes! At the time, the video was one of the first in a while to return to some old-school imagery, but it was perfect for one of the hardest tracks of Kris’ career. Also if anyone copped the UK release of that 12″ there was an even harder version with an extra bassline, extra echo and a verse where he goes in on his critics at the time…it wasn’t difficult to wrk out who. “Now there are others who call themselves brothers/ Down with a posse, a tribe or crew or clan/ Understand what are you doing now black man?/ Trying hard to be the original man?/ Who?/ The first man, with the first plan on the first land, with the first tan?/ Who gives a damn!?” You didn’t wanna battle KRS back then.
