As we’ve always maintained, Livewire’s Lil Rue is one of the most appealingly raspy rappers coming from a region and collective that’s replete with firebreathing raspy rappers. And whether he’s shooting napalm from his lips and nostrils as on I Need A Bundle or slurring surped-out over Fugees reworkings we’ll stay maintaining the whole spectrum of flows that define the man they call Lil Ruger but whose firearms are far from little.

The omnipresent Based God blessed the people of NYC with his first show in the city. Unsurprisingly it was sold out and a complete riot, as the above video shows. Anyone who wasn’t there, ourselves included, clearly missed out on a truly historic event. But for dieheard Lil B fans, ourselves included, we can all share in the momentum he’s gaining in the wider national and international consciousness. If B’s not the most important person in rap right now we don’t know who is.

It’s very rare that every single video or song a group releases is so consistently banging. But that is honestly what the Nht Boyz bring to the table. They can do no wrong.

One of these days, probably around August 24th when based boy supergroup The Pack drop their ‘Wolfpack Party’ LP, the world will understand more fully what a force Young L, Lil B, Stunnaman and Lil Uno are both together and individually. As per usual, Young L masters the art of battering ears with bass and we stay wondering what a European bass music collaboration would sound like (L-E-N x Magnetic Man anyone?). Southern Hospitality joined creative forces with one of the Bay Area’s most respected multimedia brands Movements In Media to present the video for ‘Sugar Coated & Watered Down’, which has been blasted on airwaves from the UK and US all the way to Norway – major props to the good people at Spine Magazine and the National Rap Show as well as countless DJs and blogs for the support.

Featuring the immense talents of Young Gully, Roach Gigz and Stik Gilatine, and produced by our very own DJ Superix, ‘Sugar Coated & Watered Down’ brought together the artists that Southern Hospitality considers to be three of the west coast’s most passionate and talented rappers in front of two of the best respected videographers in the business, director Chris Morocco and producer Julie Jones.

Oakland’s Young Gully is renowned for being one of the rawest young rappers in the Bay. Protégé of Nas and Common’s former tour DJ, The Whole Shabang boss DJ Fresh, Gully is set for big things in 2010 following his Definition Of Gas mixtape and essential album ‘The Tonite Show With Young Gully’.

San Francisco’s Roach Gigz is one of the Bay’s most exciting and charismatic characters whose elastic vocals and bottomless gas tank have a major buzz up and down the west coast right now with his ‘Roachy Balboa’ mixtape, hosted by DJ Racks.

Stik Gilatine is the undisputed prince of the San Jose underground. One of the brightest stars from Playa Rae’s Monstaville camp, Stik is a prolific night-time writer, exceptional lyricist and a genuinely nice guy. Make sure you cop his free album ‘The Fly Guy’, which we’ve had on repeat all year, right here.
