Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

Here’s a chance to see the killer combination of R-Les and F.A.B.O. in the studio. Les just keeps hitting us with the dope footage and as we’ve said before, the day these two make a full album together will be a great one.

J.Bo & Southern Hospitality Present: Rap & Bullsh*t 101

Monday, July 19th, 2010

Visitors to Southern Hospitality will know how much we love us some good old Rap & Bullshit. Sometimes nothing else will do, and by sometimes we mean most of the damn time. However, especially when we’re partying with our longtime homie J.Bo who we’ve collaborated with on this mix. In fact, such an authority on Rap & B. we’re gonna let the man explain himself:

“The long overdue collaboration between J.Bo and Southern Hospitality has been a true labour of love, just over a year in the making… and even now, the only way to agree to a final tracklisting was to start planning volume 2 (and 3!) immediately.  A representation of one of our favourite sub-genres of all, these are the jiggy jams that brought fun and females back to the clubs.  Featuring such luminaries of the genre as Fabo, Jigga, Kells, Luda and Diddy in a musical celebration of all that is trite and trivial, frivolous and flagrant.  If the Fresh Prince is still looking for “a groove that soothes and moves romance” this ‘Summertime’ then here are 22 of em.  Long live “Rap & Bullshit”.”

-J-Bo

So there you have it, couldn’t have put it better myself.

Enjoy!

‘Rick Rock Make The Beat Knock’ -
Mixed By Rob Pursey

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

We may be only a few months into the new decade, but I’m going to take this moment to release my special dedication to one of the very best of the last. The man behind hella Hyphy slumpers, endless West Coast classics, timeless ROC joints and just about a million other dope records – none other than super-producer and ‘King Of Slaps’Rick Rock!

Seriously, there are few producers who generate the same level of excitement as when I see Ricardo Thomas’ name in the production credits…the man just knows how to make music with that next level energy! Despite being around since producing for the legendary ‘Pac on his most legendary album, Rick Rock not only provided the definitive  soundtrack to the already Hyphy Bay in the mid 00′s, but is still making the most cutting edge music you can imagine as evidenced by his latest production for his long-time collaborator E-40. His work with 40, Turf Talk, Keak and his group Federation still seems like the future has been beamed back to us. ’18 Dummy’, for example, sounding otherworldly on the day I first heard it, now and no doubt in the next decade too. Not to mention all the East Coast heavy hitters he’s blessed with monstrous radio jams from Jigga to Fabolous from Erick Sermon to Busta and the rest. There are way more joints I could have included here, as his discography is deep, but this is just a selection of some of my personal favourites and perhaps some of his most significant. They’ll all slap the hell out of your system regardless!

For us at Southern Hospitality Rick Rock is a legend behind the boards and as the title suggests no-one can make the beat knock quite like him..enjoy!

‘R-Les For Pres – Produced By Ryan Leslie’
Mixed By Rob Pursey

R-Les For Pres? President of the groove for sure. Ever since I copped the 12″ of ‘Just Right’ back in 2005, I’ve been following Ryan Leslie as he’s crafted the kind of music that is both a throwback to the classic 80s sound I love, whilst always sounding hella contemporary and more often than not, futuristic. The dude manages to marry unabashed innocence with tough drums and rhythm like few others. After his debut album got heavily ‘net bootlegged, having never made it past promo stage (a finished promo CD that I’m the proud owner of after finding it in a suburban Cancer Research charity store for £1.50 last year – word!), there was then a few compilations and various promos from his Next Selection Music group floating around whilst he got on his production grind for artists like Danity Kane, Cheri Dennis, Jo-Jo and of course Cassie for whom he produced all of her classic debut. This period of time, a time when Les spent most of his time showing the world his immense recording talent on YouTube, features heavily on this mix, with these productions alongside some of his many unreleased joints. After finally getting his ‘official’ self-titled album ‘Ryan Leslie’ out last year he then took no chances and within 12 months had also released the equally dope ‘Transition’ giving myself and other like minded Les-fans more and more killer grooves and loads more of that good old classic romance! Therefore, I’ve chosen to leave most of those, bar from the odd bonus track, off here and included more recent productions he’s done for Mary, Fabolous, Slim, Cassie (again) and some newer leaked tracks. The sheer quality of some of this music that the world has barely heard is insane and quite honestly there are few artists whose music makes me as happy as that of Ryan Leslie.

Enjoy and please share with anyone else who appreciates great RnB music!

Trey Songz ft. Fabolous – ‘Say Aah’

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

Although his album’s been out for a hot minute, Trey Songz ‘Ready’ still has major legs thanks to super-fresh Rap n Bullshit jams like this featuring the master of the genre – Fabolous. Hell, I nearly broke out into a mall-bop when I heard this on the Westfield Centre system at the weekend!
