Since last summer’s Danny Brown-fronted underground smash Blueberry (Pills & Cocaine) drew widespread critical acclaim and club support, London producer Darq E Freaker has been hard at work with some of the world’s most exciting young vocalists.
Enter the weird and wonderful Gita. The Oakland-born, Harlem-living rapper launched onto the scene with two DJ Two Stacks-produced anthems Hood Rich and Let That (released on Fools Gold’s very excellent ‘Loosies’ rap compilation) and now puts her flag firmly in the ground with the single and video release of ‘Mardi Gras’.
Filmed in an abandoned Victorian house in London, the David LaChappelle-inspired video from ‘Blueberry’ director Yoni Lappin, was premiered today on Noisey. The single is out now on ASL Records – cop it on iTunes.
Gita will follow ‘Mardi Gras’ with a new EP – set for release late spring
