From the moment those first notes and sample chops hit on his anti-hipster anthem Fuck Dat Hipster Shit, which featured on Killer Mike’s Underground Atlanta double CD compilation from last year, ATL’s Grip Plyaz had our undivided attention. When the sample chops were sliced, spat out and brought back over curt angelic bursts, our blood was literally on simmer. And by the time his sustained chants of “Miss me with that shit, fuck dat hipster shit” were meat-hooked in our mind’s ear… let’s just say dude made an impression.
The first single from ‘6Pack vol. 1: A Prelude to Purp, Wind & Fire,’ the run-up to his album proper ‘Purp, Wind & Fire’, features Southern Hospitality favourite Aleon Craft, is produced by The Weathermen (the ATL producers who are also handled by Grip’s manager and our good friend Kei from Governed By Loyalty) and is directed by the previously covered Corey Davis of Mach Five.
So, the culmination of a lot of talent. And it’s very, very dope.
