If you’ve ever been to a Southern Hospitality party, whether in London, LA, Texas or beyond, you’ll be more than familiar with the music of the Bay Area’s mighty HBK Gang.

Core members Iamsu!, P-Lo, Sage the Gemini, Skipper, CJ, Rossi, Jay Ant and Dave Steezy are unrivalled in the business of west coast party music, and have been touring nationally pretty much non-stop since breakout singles ‘Go’, ‘She Ready’ and ‘Up’ invigorated the movement.

There can be no HBK without Kool John though, and if we’re honest, when a new project drops it’s the songs featuring the $hmop Life originator that we skip to first, his weighty baritone hovering perfectly over the Invasion and YP on the Beat production.

Debut solo project ‘$hmop City’, which you can stream and download below, is as exciting as we could have hoped for, drawing equal inspiration from vintage Thizz and Cash Money, and just banging from front to back.

And to top it off, the P-Lo featuring video for one of the many mixtape highlights is typical of the crew’s fun but seriously entertaining aesthetic.
