The release of 17 year-old producer S-X‘s Woooo Mixtape and EP represents the apex of something that’s been bubbling ever since the ubiquitous ‘Woooo Riddem’ first started getting spit on at raves, on the radio and on mixtapes almost a year ago. It is Sam Gumbley’s finest hour, but only the beginning for the talented beatmaker, and perhaps more vitally, the StayFresh brand and movement.

Jamie Dred and Despa’s independent label bears all the hallmarks of the southern US brands we witnessed come up from out of the industry darkness, and gives hope to artists and labels from the Midlands and beyond that not coming from or living in the capital doesn’t have to be as disadvantageous as has historically been the case.
